PRINTS

Back in high school is where I first learned to cut linoleum. My memory of how exciting it was to see the results of a carving printed on paper has not waned throughout the years. I remember printing my blocks on paper bags as gifts for friends to cover their textbooks (kids nowadays have no clue that paper bags were more than just objects to transport groceries). From that day on, I was hooked on block printing. The element of surprise is what lures me. The process, the texture, the mistakes...all combine to create a look that showcases subtlety and softness unachievable through other mediums. Never fully knowing what the finished result will look like until it is complete gets me everytime...even mistakes yield pleasant surprises that help give a print character.
